1985 Jaguar XJ6 and 2001 Mazda MX5

Bryan Lawrence

Bryan enjoys taking the XJ6 on P76 outings, as these are the only occasions when the other cars in the convoy are bigger than his!  It is unusual, as it is a Series 3 with a 3.4 litre twin SU carb engine rather than the usual 4.2 fuel injected.   In Britain it was the “entry level” Series 3 and considered to be a bit “down market”, but here he likes the fact that it is a bit different.

When running a big six started hurting the pocket a bit, he looked around for something smaller and cheaper to run, but with potential for lots of fun.  The MX5 fills that role to perfection, and in the two years he have owned it, he has never failed to return from an outing without a grin from ear to ear.  He gets regularly razzed by the other club members about being able to put it in the boot of a P76 if it breaks down.  But it doesn’t break down!  And he defies anyone to better the experience of driving our great country roads on a warm summer’s day with the top down
