1997 Almac Sabre
Patrick Harlow

Although
Patrick does not have a P76 he has been a long time fan of the marque
since he first went for a ride in one as a teenager in the 70's. The
car above was built by Patrick as a kit set from Almac Cars in Upper
Hutt and is one of only 9 cars built. It started off life with a Cortina
2.3ltr V6 which was later upgraded to a Capri 2.8ltr V6. More recently
Patrick was able to acquire a fully reconditioned P76 V8 motor to
power the car with. This was the original reason for his joining the club.
Unfortunately
the motor had been stored outside and rain water had gotten into the
motor through an open inlet valve and two cylinders were like Weet-Bix
and ceased solid. The cost of reconditioning it was beyond his budget so
he used a Rover 3.5 V8 instead. However he did buy a die cast 1:43rd
scale P76 model
at one of the club AGM's and uses that to justify his continued
membership.
